When you own and operate a business, you may find that reviewing your employees each month is what keeps them as good employees. By sitting down each month and reviewing what your employees have done over the last month, you are able to see which employee is essential to your company and which employee may not be. This will help when you are trying to cut some employees from the payroll.
Keep in mind that when you are reviewing your employees each month, that you should not only review what they have done during this month that was good for your company but also what was done for your company that was not so good. Both the good and the bad points of the employee’s monthly history should be reviewed.
If you feel as if you have to many employees to be able to sit down and do a monthly review, set aside time each week to review a limited number of employees so that you are able to see what each employee is doing over the course of the month. If you own a restaurant type of business, try setting out the feedback cards and ask that your patrons fill out what they thought of not only the food but of the employees in the establishment as well. This will help to get a outsiders view of the business as well as getting your own personal views.
If you operate a business with a co-owner, ask them to take some of the reviews of the employees and put their take in it from what they think about the employees. Bear in mind that there are going to be times that you have a wonderful employee and even during a month or two, you may find that they had a few bad days. When the person has a bad day outside of the workplace, this still carries over into how they perform their job. This should not affect them however; being human will cause them to loose a portion of focus on the task while at work. Look at the overall work history to determine if this person is worth keeping or if you feel that it effected them to the point where they need to be let go.
All of this can be done by simply going over the work history each and every month of the employees in your business. This is just one of the many reasons why someone should keep a watch on their employees.
